For over six decades, a family-run business in Pittsfield has been quietly keeping the community on schedule. West Side Clock Shop, a fixture on the city's west side, has spent 66 years selling, servicing, and repairing timepieces of all kinds. While many retailers have come and gone, this shop has stood the test of time by focusing on craftsmanship and personal service.
The shop handles everything from antique grandfather clocks to modern wall clocks and wristwatches. Its owner, who learned the trade from his father, says the key to longevity is a simple one: treat every clock like it matters. "People bring in heirlooms that have been in their families for generations," he explained. "We are not just fixing a machine. We are preserving a memory."
The business has weathered changes in technology and shopping habits. Online retailers and cheap quartz watches have not hurt their core work. Instead, the shop has found a steady demand for high-end mechanical repairs and restoration work. Many customers drive from other towns just to have a clock serviced here.
West Side Clock Shop does not sell batteries or trendy gadgets. Its shelves are lined with brass pendulums, wooden cases, and tools that look like they belong in a museum. Yet the shop remains busy. The owner says younger people are also showing interest, often bringing in vintage watches they inherited.
As the shop enters its 67th year, the message is clear: some things are worth the wait. In a world of disposable goods, West Side Clock Shop proves that a well-made timepiece can last a lifetime, and so can a good business.
