Genesis GV90 packs luxury features reminiscent of Chinese SUVs

The new Genesis GV90 is stepping into the full-size electric SUV ring, and it is bringing a cabin that borrows heavily from the playbook of high-end Chinese automakers. That is not a knock. It is an observation from people who have spent time inside the vehicle. The GV90 places Genesis in the same conversation as the Cadillac Escalade IQ, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, and the Lucid Gravity, but it does so with a distinct approach to opulence.

What stands out first is the rear seat. It is not just a bench with a screen. There are lounge-style chairs with powered recline, heating and cooling, and massage functions that would not look out of place in a first-class airline suite. The front seats get similar treatment, with intricate stitching and perforated leather that feels more like a tailored jacket than upholstery. There is also a wide panoramic display that stretches across the dashboard, but the real party trick is the center console. It slides back and forth, letting the driver or front passenger control a small fridge tucked underneath. That is a feature you usually see in ultra-luxury Chinese EVs like the Zeekr 009 or the Nio ET9, not in a mainstream Korean luxury product.

The GV90 also leans into ambient lighting in a way that is more theatrical than typical European rivals. There are hidden light strips that pulse gently when you adjust the climate, and the door panels have small touch-sensitive pads that control window shades and seat adjustments. It feels like a tech showcase, but it is executed with enough restraint that it does not become gimmicky.

Under the skin, the GV90 uses a new 800-volt platform that supports fast charging, and the range is expected to land somewhere around 300 miles on a full charge. That puts it on par with the Escalade IQ and the Gravity, though the Maybach EQS still holds a slight edge in raw battery capacity. The driving experience is quiet and smooth, with air suspension that filters out most road noise. It is not sporty, but it does not need to be. This is a car for being chauffeured in, not for carving canyons.

Pricing has not been announced yet, but expect it to start near the six-figure mark. The GV90 is a bold statement for Genesis, and it shows the brand is willing to look beyond traditional luxury cues for inspiration. Whether that is a good thing depends on how much you like the idea of a Korean luxury SUV that feels like it was designed with Shanghai in mind.
