West Hartford Business Owner Released From ICE Custody

West Hartford Business Owner Released From ICE Custody

Sead Cecunjanin, known to many as Seyo, walked free on Thursday and returned to West Hartford after being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents since last week. The local business owner and longtime resident was taken into custody in an operation that stunned his family, employees, and the broader community.

Cecunjanin, who runs a well-known restaurant in the area, was released following what his legal team described as a successful push for bond. Details of the conditions of his release remain limited, but his return to West Hartford was met with relief by supporters who had gathered outside the detention facility.

The arrest had sparked an outcry from local officials and residents who questioned why a man with deep roots in the community and no serious criminal record was targeted. Cecunjanin came to the United States as a child and has lived in Connecticut for decades. His case highlighted ongoing tensions around immigration enforcement and the treatment of long-term residents who lack full legal status.

For now, Cecunjanin is back home with his family. His attorney stated that they will continue to fight his case in immigration court, aiming to secure a permanent resolution that allows him to stay in the country where he has built his life and business.
