Evergreen business sees flooding three times in two months, with more rain on the way

Downtown Evergreen is mopping up once more after heavy rainfall this week sent water pouring into local shops and offices. It marks the third time in just two months that flooding has hit the area, and forecasters say more rain is on the way through the weekend.

Business owners say the repeated flooding is taking a serious toll. Several storefronts along the main strip reported water damage to floors, inventory, and electrical systems. Some had only just reopened after the last cleanup when the new storm hit. "We are exhausted," said one shopkeeper, who asked not to be named. "We are still drying out from the last one, and now we are doing it all over again."

The latest round of rain came down fast and hard, overwhelming storm drains that city crews had already cleared twice this season. Water rose quickly in low-lying areas, and sandbags placed outside several doors did little to stop the flow. A few businesses stayed open, but most closed early to protect staff and equipment.

Local officials say they are monitoring the situation and have brought in extra pumps, but they admit the infrastructure is struggling to keep up with the unusually wet pattern. The National Weather Service predicts another two to three inches of rain by Sunday evening, with the heaviest showers expected Saturday night.

For now, owners are doing what they can. Some are moving merchandise to higher shelves. Others are stacking sandbags higher and checking sump pumps. But many say they cannot keep operating like this much longer. One restaurant manager summed it up: "We need a real solution, not just another cleanup."
