Stereotaxis completes major cardiology tech acquisition

Stereotaxis has closed its acquisition of a major cardiology technology platform, a move that expands its footprint in the treatment of complex heart conditions. The deal, first announced in April, includes an upfront payment of $20 million and up to an additional $25 million based on certain milestones tied to regulatory approvals and sales targets.

The acquired technology focuses on robotic-assisted navigation for catheter-based procedures, particularly for atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias. Stereotaxis plans to integrate the system with its existing robotic magnetic navigation platform, which is already used in hundreds of hospitals worldwide. Company executives said the purchase will accelerate development of next-generation tools for electrophysiologists, allowing for more precise mapping and ablation of faulty heart tissue.

The transaction is expected to close by the end of the current quarter, pending standard regulatory reviews. Stereotaxis has not disclosed the exact name of the acquired company or its leadership, but noted that key engineers and clinical specialists will join the Stereotaxis team. The additional milestone payments are contingent on achieving specific commercial and regulatory benchmarks over the next three years.

Analysts have viewed the acquisition as a strategic bet on the growing demand for minimally invasive cardiac procedures. The global market for robotic cardiac surgery is projected to expand as hospitals seek to reduce procedure times and improve patient outcomes. Stereotaxis shares rose modestly in after-hours trading following the announcement.
