Oakland is gearing up for its annual Small Business Week, offering a series of free workshops and networking opportunities designed to support local entrepreneurs. The event, which runs from May 5 through May 9, will feature daily classes held over Zoom, making it accessible for business owners who cannot attend in person. Topics range from digital marketing strategies to financial planning and navigating city permits.
The week will culminate on May 7 with an in-person networking mixer, giving small business owners a chance to connect with peers, mentors, and local resource providers. Organizers say the goal is to strengthen the city's small business ecosystem, which employs a significant portion of Oakland's workforce. "We want to remove barriers and give owners practical tools they can use immediately," said a city spokesperson.
Registration is free but required for both the virtual sessions and the mixer. The city's economic development office is partnering with local chambers and nonprofit groups to host the events. This year's focus includes helping businesses recover from recent economic challenges and adapt to changing consumer habits. Organizers encourage owners of all stages, from startups to established shops, to attend and take advantage of the free resources.
