Nevada’s largest liquor store chain acquired by Texas company

Nevada’s largest liquor store chain acquired by Texas company

The largest liquor store chain in Nevada has a new owner. Spec's Family Corp., the company behind Spec's Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods, completed its purchase of Lee's Discount Liquor back in June. The deal brings the well-known Las Vegas chain under the umbrella of the Texas retailer, which has deep roots in Houston.

Lee's Discount Liquor has operated in southern Nevada for decades, building a reputation for deep discounts and a massive selection. The chain runs more than a dozen locations across the Las Vegas Valley, making it a familiar stop for locals and tourists alike. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Spec's, which has been family-run since its founding in 1962, now expands its footprint beyond Texas for the first time in a major way. The company operates over 160 stores in its home state, and the Lee's purchase gives it a solid entry point into the Nevada market. Spec's says it plans to keep the Lee's name and its current staff, at least for now.

The move comes as the national liquor retail landscape sees more consolidation, with larger players looking to buy up regional chains. For customers, the change likely means little immediate difference in day-to-day operations, though Spec's may eventually introduce its own private-label products or adjust pricing strategies. Lee's had been family-owned since its start in 1971, and the sale marks the end of an era for one of Nevada's most recognizable independent liquor sellers.
