The Birmingham City Council is scheduled to meet Tuesday to consider revoking the business license of Nana Funks, a nightclub located in the Lakeview neighborhood. The review follows a shooting incident at the venue and a history of police calls.
Authorities have identified a suspect in the shooting, which occurred early Sunday morning. Police responded to reports of gunfire at the club and found a victim suffering from a non-life-threatening wound. The suspect is currently being sought by law enforcement.
According to city records, Nana Funks has been the subject of multiple complaints and police responses in recent months, including disturbances and noise violations. Council members have cited these incidents as grounds for the license review.
The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at Birmingham City Hall. Club owners will have the opportunity to present their case before the council makes a final decision. If the license is revoked, the establishment would be forced to cease operations immediately.
This is not the first time a Birmingham nightclub has faced scrutiny over public safety issues. City officials have emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for venues that generate repeated police calls or violent incidents. The outcome of Tuesday's vote could set a precedent for how the city handles similar cases in the future.
