The Westfield City Council has approved a tax abatement for a local accounting firm planning to build its new headquarters in the city. The two-story office building will be constructed on North Union Street, situated next to the Basile Westfield Playhouse and near Christ United Methodist Church. The decision came after council members reviewed the economic development proposal during a recent meeting.
The accounting firm, which has operated in Westfield for years, will receive a property tax break as part of the agreement. Officials say the incentive is designed to encourage the company to stay and expand within the city rather than moving to a neighboring community. The new headquarters is expected to bring additional jobs and increase the local tax base over time, offsetting the initial revenue loss from the abatement.
Construction plans for the building include modern office space, parking, and landscaping improvements that align with the area's character. The site's location near the playhouse and church places it in a growing corridor of commercial and cultural activity. Council members voiced support for the project, noting that retaining established businesses is a priority for Westfield's long-term economic health. The firm expects to break ground later this year, with completion targeted for early next year.
