GOLDEN, Colo. (July 27, 2026) -- The First Judicial District Attorney's Office has filed two felony theft charges against Ulises Tajonar Diaz, 32, alleging he accepted more than $32,000 in deposits from two Jefferson County homeowners for landscaping projects that were never started.

Diaz advertised and operated landscaping businesses across the metro area under the names My Son's Landscape and My Son's Landscape Group LLC. According to prosecutors, he took large upfront payments from the victims but failed to perform any work or refund the money.

The charges come after a months-long investigation by the district attorney's office. Authorities believe there may be additional victims who paid Diaz for services that were never completed. Investigators are asking anyone who may have had a similar experience with Diaz or his companies to come forward.

Each count of felony theft carries a potential sentence of up to six years in prison and fines. Diaz is currently being held at the Jefferson County Jail on a $50,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for early August.

The case highlights a growing concern over contractor fraud in the region, where homeowners often pay large deposits upfront for home improvement projects. Prosecutors urge residents to verify a contractor's license and references before making any payments.
